On E-Hoarding and Old Love notes

So, I'm a keepsake/momento hoarder.  When Hubs and I moved in together, I sat in the floor for hours and laughed and cried as I went through all kinds of notes and keepsakes.  Letters from my pen pal in elementary school, the program from my high school graduation, old love notes from my high school sweetheart (a total mess!!!), pictures I had totally forgotten about - just all kinds of stuff.

Well, I'm also a e-hoarder, which means that I save all emails, texts, Facebook posts, etc. that are special to me.  I am planning a post on favorite quotes, and I ran across a stash of old emails and Facebook messages from my husband, who was then my boyfriend back in 2010.  We'd traveled to Costa Rica and had a BLAST, and he'd sent me a little note about it.  Before I tell y'all about the little nugget I dug up, here's a little about our trip.

We kicked off our trip with a visit to a coffee plantation. I LOOOOOVEEE coffee, so I was in high heaven. We dabbled in extreme sports.  We went ziplining, and my hubby bungie jumped. I stayed on the ground so that someone could live to tell the story.

Ziplining with our Canadian friends.
I was making sure it was tight!
Nope. Never doing it. Just not interested

The hell???

And we went to the hot springs in Tortuga, which were heated by nearby volcanoes.

And I threw down at every meal. Like, never missed an opportunity. Seriously there are at least 50 pictures of me eating each meal as though it were my last.  I don't know what they were over there using on their foods, but I was sold.

Y'all be nice. Who knew you had to go all the way to Costa Rica for the BEST WINGS EVER?!?

This was our romantic night.  All up in the mountains overlooking the city & stuff.

As a matter of fact, we had too much of a blast. By the last day of our trip, we were completely broken down. Shawn had thrown his arm out on his bungie jump.  I suffer from the weirdest skin condition ever for a cocoa-colored Black girl.  I'm allergic to the sun!!! By the 4th day of our 7th day trip, I was so sunburned and had a full-body heat rash, but I kept going like a soldier. After all, by husband (then boyfriend) had scheduled an activity for EVERY-FREAKIN-DAY of the trip.  I sucked it up, but by the last day, my all-over (and I do mean all-over) heat rash rendered me almost unable to move. We were supposed to go white water rafting, but we just physically could not do it. So we laid low, bartered at local shops, and took in tourist attractions in the city of San Jose.

We had such a good time. It was our first real vacation as a couple and it was my very first time I stamped my passport that I had had for years.

Anyway, when we got back, I suffered from my heat rash for a few more days, but life went back to normal. I went back to school, and my hubby went back to work.  A few days after the trip I logged into Facebook, and look what my then-boyfriend had messaged me:

I was thinking about one of my favorite moments from our recent trip. We had some great adventures (zip lining, bungee jumping, driving around the city) and romantic moments (dinner in Escazu, Arenal, and Tortugua Isle). However one of my favorite memories (and probably not yours) was me taking care of you that night when your skin was hurting. I knew that was something I wanted to do for a long time....... AWWWWW!!!! Y'all can't tell me that wasn't sweet. Almost 3 years ago, and we're still going strong. Yeah, it took all of those pictures to get to the point of the post, but we got to it.  Just thought it was sweet, so I'd share it with my cyber friends. And guess what?  He's still taking care of me.  Y'all should see him when we're at outdoor events - "You sure you're alright? Find some shade!" I've got the best aloe-vera-rubber in the whole wide world.

I hope you're having a good Tuesday.  I was on a non-stop writing binge for the last week or so, so I'm giving myself the day off. I'm off to bikram (hot yoga; so excited!!) then Hubster and I are going to check out my new office at my new gig!

Until next time . . . Namaste, y'all!

  1. Which studio do you go to for bikram? I go to Capital Hill Bikram but I was wondering if there were some other studios in the area worth checking out.

And that note from your husband was the sweetest. That's what I'm holding out for.

    1. Hey! I went to Bikram Fairfax yesterday, but I've heard lots of good things about Capital Hill.

Keep holding on! I was 35 & a half when we got married, but it was worth the wait! He's a good guy, event though I wanted to bodyslam him soon after I wrote this ;)

  2. See? LOL! He was a keeper and you knew it! I love the fact that I have many handwritten letters and cards from my husband. I didn't save everything, but I saved enough to be able to "touch" some of the memories.

    1. He said he always knew we'd get married. He saved the ticket stubs from our first date.

Those memories are important to touch - and to share. I'm inspired reading about your love! It's been an inspiration. Sending you lots of love and good thoughts!
